Rumored Hauntings at the Estate

Ahead of the upcoming Friday the 13th Flashlight Tour on December 13th, 2019, where guests will have the opportunity to explore the house at nighttime with nothing but a flashlight, let’s delve into some of these ghostly visitations and the types of hauntings that they may represent.

A Haunted History

Mystery is a well-earned middle name for this San Jose Victorian mansion built by owner Sarah Pardee Winchester to, allegedly, appease spirits—, specifically those who had fallen to the famous Winchester rifle.

Hallowe’en Candlelight Tours To Debut 13 Doors

In celebration of our beloved paranormal day, Friday the 13th, we want to take a moment to look forward to another popular event held here at Winchester Mystery House: Hallowe’en Candlelight Tours.

Over the last two years, we have experienced the story of Sarah Winchester battling against the psychic medium, Adam Coombs, the very man who ‘tricked’ her into building the home. While this has been a frightfully fun story to tell over the last two years, we want to look into the dark depths of the legends and lore that surround these 160 rooms.

Hallowe’en Candlelight Tours: The 13 Doors features 13 mystical doors that Sarah Winchester purchased to be placed throughout her home, all with varying degrees of magic, mysticism and dare we say…mayhem.

Hallowe’en Candlelight Tours To Debut 13 Doors

With 13 doors comes 13 keys, all of which unlock something powerful all their own. Today, in celebration of Friday the 13th, and in advance of Hallowe’en Candlelight Tours: The 13 Doors, we want to give you first look at one of they keys that will unlock one of the many doors throughout this home this fall.

Partnering again this year with the League of 13, Peter Overstreet, Creative Director of our show has given us the opportunity to take a look behind the curtain of what’s to come. Now in our third year of haunting the halls of Sarah’s home in the most theatrical way, we present to you the first of many keys and doors: The Brick Key.

This is one of 13 keys to unlock a door that will reveal a haunting history of Sarah’s past. What this may do, we know..but we’re not going to tell you just yet. But for now, here is an idea of what we’re working on…

“We couldn’t be more proud of the work that’s gone into this year’s show. This is one of many things we have going on, and it’s just a small taste of the details and love we’re extracting from the house to put into our halloween experience” said Peter. “While I can’t say much more than that right now, I will say that we’ll be revealing even more at Midsummer Scream in two weeks, so stay tuned for more news soon”

Hallowe’en Candlelight Tours: The 13 Doors will be returning for a unprecedented 26 fright-filled nights this fall with tickets going on sale soon.

The Season of Long Shadows and Foreboding at Winchester Mystery House

Today marks the first day of autumn. For many people, it’s the season of vibrant fall colors, the swirl of falling leaves on cool winds and the crooked smiles of jolly Jack O’Lanterns. However, at Winchester Mystery House it’s the time of year where long shadows cast a sense of foreboding and melancholia – an allure for those seeking to step into one of America’s most legendary “ghost stories,” experience an “otherworldly” encounter, or journey on a chilling adventure.

The Season of Long Shadows and Foreboding at Winchester Mystery House

Here at Winchester Mystery House the increasingly shorter days and orange-hued sunsets signal the return of our popular Hallowe’en Candlelight Tour. Your invited to join a slightly “off-kilter” estate caretaker and enter a world of dusky hallways, lonely corridors, creaky stairs and menacing rooms – all illuminated only by candlelight – what could possibly happen (in the dark)?

The Season of Long Shadows and Foreboding at Winchester Mystery House

On the tour, what lurks in the shadows is even more frightening than the typical chainsaws and gore of other Halloween experiences. Here foreboding abounds as the house itself, and those within it, seem caught in a terrifying tug-of-war between Sarah Winchester herself and the malevolent psychic medium who pitted her against the spirits.
