1) Where are you located?
The Winchester Mystery House is located in San Jose, on Winchester Blvd., between Stevens Creek Blvd. and Interstate 280 (one hour south of San Francisco).

3) Do you offer group rates?
Group rates are available for groups of 15, or more, guests. Reservations must be made by calling 408/247-2000 and asking for the Group Sales Department.
4) What is the Behind-the-Scenes Tour?
The Behind-the-Scenes Tour is a 55-minute tour which gives the guests insight into how the Estate operated when Mrs. Winchester lived here. In addition, the tour also takes guests down into one of rarely seen areas of the house, Mrs. Winchester's basement (hardhats are supplied).
5) How far are you from San Jose International Airport?
The Winchester Mystery House is located just 15 minutes or 5 miles from San Jose Mineta International Airport.
6) Do you allow photography or videotaping on the property?
Photographs and/or videos are strictly prohibited inside the Winchester Mystery House. Due to the number of visitors to our property each day, photography, videos, and filming inside the Winchester Mystery House are not permitted. Please help us keep our tours fun, safe, and enjoyable for all guests. Photographs and videos in the gardens and the grounds outside the Winchester Mystery House are permissible for your own personal enjoyment. Any use, distribution or reproduction of the photographs, videos or other images of the Winchester Mystery House and the grounds for commercial purposes are strictly prohibited without prior written consent of the Winchester Mystery House, LLC.
7) Do you rent the facility for private parties?
The Winchester Mystery House facilities are available to rent for private events. For details and rates, call 408/247-2000 and ask for the Group Sales department.
8) Can I bring my stroller/wheelchair on the Mansion Tour?
Due to the number of stairs and steps inside the mansion, strollers and wheelchairs cannot be accommodated. Though, the gardens are accessible to strollers and wheelchairs.
9) What accommodations do you provide for hearing impaired guests?
English scripts are available for hearing impaired guests. If hearing impaired guests have their own interpreter, the interpreter will receive a Complimentary Admission.
10) Do you have RV parking?
There is plenty of parking available for RV's in the theatre parking lot located across the street (Olsen Drive) from the Winchester Mystery House.
11) We don't have access to a car, how can we get to the Winchester Mystery House?
Take CalTrain from San Francisco to the Santa Clara Station. After you get off the train, walk across the street and catch the VTA #60 southbound bus. The bus will stop right in front of the Winchester Mystery House.
12) Is the house haunted?
There have been numerous reports of paranormal activity, by both guests and employees. Psychics have said that there are three spirits currently residing in the mansion. Feel free to visit our "Alleged Hauntings" or "Spirit Sightings" website pages to hear the various accounts.
13) How long has the house been open for tours?
The grounds were opened up to the public shortly after Mrs. Winchester's death in 1922. The house has been open for tours since 1932.
14) Are there any secret passageways in the house?
There is a "secret" passageway in the SÃ©ance Room which is one of the three exits out of the room. From past records, we are certain more secret passageways exist on the premises, however, they are so secret that no individual has ever been able to locate them.
15) Are any of Mrs. Winchester's relatives still alive?
We are not aware that any of Mrs. Winchester's direct relatives are still living.
16) Does the Winchester family still own the house today?
The Winchester family does not own the home today. After Mrs. Winchester's death in 1922, the property was sold and has been in private ownership since.
17) Do you do birthday parties?
Special Birthday Party Packages are available to celebrate your child's birthday. For more information on packages, and reservations, call 408/247-2000 and ask for the Group Sales Department.
18) Do you have lockers to store backpacks and luggage?
Lockers are available for rent. They are located in the Central Courtyard.
19) What happened to Fright Nights?
The October/Halloween inspired event, Fright Nights, has been discontinued. Back by popular demand are our family friendly Flashlight Tours! Check out our Special Events Page for the most up-to-date information!
20) Do you accept credit cards?
Yes, we accept all major credit cards.

It is estimated that 500 rooms to 600 rooms were built by Sarah Winchester's foreman, John Hansen. However, due to the fact so many were redone, only 160 remain. This naturally resulted in some peculiar effects, such as stairs that lead to the ceiling, doors that go nowhere and that open onto walls, and chimneys that stop just short of the roof.
